Question Are there others beside myself who fall within the catagory of "Duel Diagnosis"? I am an alcoholic and bipolar (manic-depression). My drinking besides being an addiction was an attempt at self medicating. I am back on my meds, and sober again. I am feeling much better and hopeful. The medication is expensive, but less than what I spent killing myself slowly with alcohol... Confused

I'm not diagnosed, but probably am!
I never had much of an alcohol problem, it was more drugs.
But I've been drug free for 14 years, and haven't had a drink in about one year.

Confused The drugs I could take or leave, but anytime I got ahold of them I used to excess... Kind of like most things I do. I have a very addictive personality. The thought of being offered "coke" still scares the crap out of me, fortunately my higher power has kept watch over me and kept that stuff and people away from me... Shocked

Alcohol is available anywhere, easy to get, so it's harder to stay off of.
Luckily, drinking makes me physicly ill, no problem staying off of it.
Drugs, being illegal, are slightly harder to get.
I just had to stay away from people who used, and dealt.
It was tough at first, but it's easy now, I don't even want to use.
Now if I could control my Food, Caffeine, sugar, and credit card addictions...

Confused I can relate on so many fronts... The caffine, the food etc. I cut up the credit cards. And I have cut back on the caffine and since I got back on my meds my food consumption is much healthier. I'm eating less and better. Just giving up the beer will help with that too, I was consuming thousands of empty calories every week. Now I just need to get more active, both physically and in my recovery... Embarassed

I do good with my eating, then totally crash and burn.
My cholesterol was through the roof, weigh 250, and I have gout.
I take anipurnol for the gout, but meat's bad for the cholesterol, and the doc wants me to stay off the sugar.
Gotta go back and get my prescription refilled, and have blood work done.
I hate doctors. Twisted Evil

Very Happy I am happy to report that my meds have kicked in now and I am pretty level emotionally... Plus when I went to the Dr. for my 30 follow up visit, I had lost 11 pounds in the last month and brought my blood pressure down 10 points on both the systolic and diastolic! The Dr. was encouraged and told me to keep doing what I am doing... He said to get out and skate more! Razz
