Very Happy Welcome to the Sober Skaters Message Board! The MB is still under construction, but please feel free to register now, so when we are up and running you will be onboard and we can begin shredding and sharing recovery! I want to welcome "Uncle Mike". Mike is our Professional Advisor and Resident Senior Skater... He works full-time as an Addiction Counselor at a beautiful recovery facility in Malibu California, and a sober skater at 60+ years! I'm sure his presence here will be a great help and valuable resource. Very Happy

Roger "Doc". Cool

congrats on putting the plug in the jug. it sucks that skating and "partying" seem to go hand in hand most of the time. i kinda got out of skating when i got sober and have picked in back up within the past few years. now i just skate and dont really dabble so much in the "scene." good luck with the site and recovery.

Good idea, even though I check concretedisciples skatetn socalskateparks, our private site for older skaters and others, I am finding that I have too many forums to keep up with and it is interfering with my studying, however I will be checking back on this one because without recovery there is nothing, at least for me. Don't believe me, check out the concretedisciples photos section and check the 90-91 video of Jason Richardson, yep that's me and that was my first and last pro contest, then got back into drugs and alcohol and finally got serious about sobriety. My sobriety date is july 18th 2001 and I started back skating at least once a week in May of 05, planning a 18 day skatepark tour in california from july 24th to aug 11th hopefully I will see some people from this forum out there. Keep up the good work, and nice idea for a forum. Very Happy Oh by the way should anybody need to contact me regarding their sobriety and slippery situations my email is jasonsk8@bellsouth.net I check it quite frequently around school.

Great idea for a forum. There can be a lot of triggers for people in the skate culture. A straight edge approach is a good thing. Hope the forum grows! Smile

Nice work! Been sober since December 15, 1995; been back skating since 2002.

Glad to see there are more sober skaters out there. Like some of the other posters, I've found that a lot of skaters include hard partying as part of the lifestyle...but I've found a lot less of that with the older skaters in the crew.

Anyhow, this is a cool idea and I'm glad to be hanging around. Smile

Very Happy Welcome you guys! It's great to see people here and posting. For only being up and running one day, we are really growing and doing good! I'm a skater who is still trying to recover from the 70's... My hard drinking and partying, just became all consuming, getting in the way of everything I loved, especially my family and skating. It's good to be clean and sober today. No skating though, I have to work and besides, there is a foot of snow on the ground! Come on Spring, I'm jonesen here!!! Wink
