Windskates.

Check out the Windskates site. "Uncle Mike" and I have both been Windskaters. Mike still does so, I no longer have one, but would really like to get one again some day... Mike and I both bought our Windskate from the inventor, Jamie Budge in Santa Monica Ca. in about 1977. Windskating is outragiously fun and entertaining!
I've been clocked at 62 MPH on the dry lake bed in El Marage. That's bookin only inches from the ground.
Yes I've "bought the farm" at speed (40+) and realy tore up my knees, but as junkies for in this case "speed" we will go to any extreams (including pain) for fun.

Too cool.
I worked at a bike/skate shop in '79-'80, and the owner had one of those hand held sails. We used to have a good time messing around with it.
One night we got in his van, a little loaded, and went to this mall with a unobstructed parking lot. ( no curbs, dividers ) and as a huge storm blew up, he followed us in his van and clocked us over 40mph.
What a rush.

Yah any speed like that at 2 inches above the pavement is a rush. the best part is turn the sail into the wind and ya got "air brakes"
