I ride a lot at night. When I am not practicing slalom I ride some very big hills here in Connecticut. I was fortunate that last year they paved my favorite roads. Some ten or so miles of assorted hills in the "Litchfield Hills." Here's a list of my current boards.

1. Fibreflex Henry Hester vintage Slalom Board, signed by Henry Hester, seven-time 70's slalom champion. Not currently mounted.

2. Fibreflex Paul Price Freerider Slalom board. 29 x 8.25, 5/8" camber, 19.5" wheelbase, Geezer-X 90mm Super-Team modified RTX front, 90mm Splitfire Rear (using RII 50 degree baseplate with wedging), 3dm Hot Spots, 80a (usually)

3. Insect Sidewinder Hybrid Slalom board, 30 x 8 5/8", 3/8 camber, multiple wheelbases set at 21", Geezer-X 100mm modified RTX front, 90mm Splitfire Rear spaced to 100mm, 3dm Avalons, 80a Rear/85a Front (usually) I will likely sell the deck on this one soon.

4. Roe Racing Unlimited 32 Performance Series Slalom board, 32 x 9", approx. 1/2" camber, multiple wheelbases set at 21", Geezer-X 100mm Super-Team modified RTX front, 90mm Splitfire Rear spaced to 100mm, 3dm Avalons, 80a Rear/80a Front (usually)

5. Roe Racing Bullet 32 TorsionCore (foam) Slalom board, 32 x 9", approx. 1/2" camber, multiple wheelbases set at 22", Geezer-X 105mm modified RTX front, 90mm Splitfire Rear spaced 100mm, 3dm Avalons, 80a Rear/80a Front (usually)

6. Turner Aurora Slalom board, 31 x 9.25", approx. 3/4" camber, wheelbases set at 20", Geezer-X 100mm modified RTX front, 90mm Splitfire Rear spaced 100mm, 3dm Avalons, 80a Rear/80a Front (usually)

7. Gordon and Smith Surf Shack 35.5" x 7.75", flat with kicktail, wheelbase set at 23" I run this much like the other here. This has never been run in a race, but may work out OK for a very big slalom somewhere or possibly a park slalom where I need a kicktail. For now it is a fun bigger board that has the narrowness of an old-school with length approaching a longboard, and it is rock solid and stiff for a very confident feel on bigger hills. I freeride this thing a lot; sometimes I ride it with Randall RII's all around. I almost always ride it with 74a Avalons which help keep speed in check and make for a very grippy and smooth ride.

8. BDS Quad 10 Second generation, 34" x 10", Wheelbase 17" (I think), concave with spoon nose and kick tail; wedged tracker six tracks with BDS Ultrathand Mini-DubCons. This is my park board when I go, which is not often enough. I do have a set of 184mm trackers with IPS speedlabs on them that I use for a quick switch when I ride on skatelite.

9. Dogtown Sunburst. 8.6 x 30, wheelbase 16.75", concave with kick tail, tracker RTX/S 129mm wedged with BDS Ultrathand Mini-DubCons; I also switch out to Tracker 106mm RTX/S with 78a 3dm Road Rider Red Cambrias once in a while to run some very tight cones. It works well for this. It is actually a nice little TS board.

10. Arbor Pocket Rocket... 26 x 7.25, wheelbase is 14" (they claim 17", but that is center to center, I measure inner hole to inner hole). I have Tracker Fulltracks on it with ... heh... old Road Rider 4 wheels. The board is very small, much like the boards I rode in the 1970's. Great for throwing 360's in the driveway. Very compact and small and so travels well. Not too terribly serious. i amy sell it sometime soon.

11. Gordon & Smith Warptail (original). Not a II, not a reisuue. Midtracks, 1/2" risers, and alternating between Simms GS wheels and Road Rider 6's.

12. Original Fibreflex 28"x 6" slalom board, Slalom pro trucks, Rad Pads, Henry Hester Road Rider Wheels

The rest is... hmmm, not worth mentioning...

I'll post pictures if anyone is interested in any of the above.

Here are pictures of four slalom boards described in items 2 through 5 above. The Fibreflex, the Insect, and my two Roes.

Comments:

Pictures 1 and 2:

I use the Fibreflex for tightish courses. The 90mm Tracker in the front and 90 mm Splitfire are pretty narrow, and with a 19.5" wheelbase it turns pretty well. It pumps great. It has a 5/8" camber but is real stiff, and I can pump it up hills. They don't make this board anymore. That's OK, I have an extra stashed.

I use the Insect for slightly more open Hybrid courses, and run the wheelbase at 20"-21". Steve's Insect boards are top drawer. He makes all of Roe Racing's wood-composite boards. Here is the website: http://www.insectskateboards.com/ There is a City Bomber in my future.

Pictures 3 and 4:

Roe Unlimited 32 and Roe Bullet 32" TorsionCore (foam) I use the Roe Unlimited for even more open hybrid and a 21" wheelbase and with a the Roe Bullet with a 22" wheelbase for GS. Both of the Roes are relatively wide, and both are 32" long, so they are stable at speed. Roes are great racing boards. Here's their website: http://www.roeslalom.com/ Looks like they are down right now.

Pictures 5 and 6:

This is my Roe Unlimited. This shows a little better what the business ends look like. This board is a composite construction. The truck configuration is pretty standard for me, and I use it with some combination of wedging on most of my boards. This also allows me to build boards up with just baseplates and swap components around as and when needed. Some of this stuff is pretty expensive, and being able to use it on multiple boards is a bonus. That's why the Insect is not built up right now. It takes about three minutes to get the trucks on that board from one of the others here.

Pictures 7 and 8:

Modified Tracker RTX. This RTX has a spherical pivot on it. Details of the fitment and the pivot itself. These modified Trackers rock... more about them in the following pictures.

Picture 9:

Note the faced hangers... not only are they faced, but they are faced in such a way that there is an integrated spped ring. This makes for a much more precise surface for the bearing to mate to, and lends both speed and stability to the entire equasion.

Picture 10:

Note the lathed soft Tracker Stimulators. A longer 2.5" kingpin has been used to accomodate two Stims like this. Note the 15 degree wedging on the front truck. Fairly standard. This is a nice shot of the entire truck. The 68mm 80a Avalons are relatively standard for me, though I will also give Hot Spots a try this summer on my tight setups, and will probably end up with some of Chaput's Zig Zags too.

Pictures 11 and 12:

http://www.woodburyweb.com/skate/quiver/images/12.jpg

The rear truck. Wedged to about 12-14 degrees. This is a Splitfire purpose built slalom truck. See their website here: http://www.asphaltplayground.com/

It uses a Randall II 50 degree baseplate which is negative wedged in order to slow down the truck's turning. I run blue Khiro barrel and insert bushings on this truck.

All of the above individual pictures can be viewed as a group here: http://www.woodburyweb.com/skate/quiver/

Let me know your thoughts...

Turner Aurora foam slalom board, 31 x 9.25", approx. 3/4" camber, wheelbases set at 20", Geezer-X 100mm modified RTX front, 90mm Splitfire Rear spaced 100mm, 3dm Avalons, 80a Rear/80a Front (usually)

This is a UK model made after Bobby Turner's death. I dressed it like a 70's Turner Fullnose chiefly because I was not sure how else I was going to grip a rolled-edge board, and the inspiration is obvious. I like the way it came out.
