MICHAEL'S BLOG

I got an email from Roger "Doc" Thompson who has put together a very unique website called Skaters In Recovery. Here's the URL
http://www.soberskaters.myfreeforum.org
The web has spawned so many ideas and the ways and means to amplify these ideas continue to astound me.
I know there a number of folks who work in the skate industry with a penchant for alcohol...and of course, there are tremendous number of skaters who really enjoy it as well. The issue is moderation...and believe me, it's hard to find at most industry events.
Here in Ontario, we have a number of very interesting laws regarding alcohol. For example, all alcohol is sold thru the government. They make enormous profits due taxes - a bottle of gin will cost the government of Ontario $2 and it winds up on the shelf for $26!
The government feels that this is the only way to work things and that by privatizing the system, you'd get widespread abuse.
There are very strict laws regarding the serving of alcohol in restaurants and resorts can't offer "all inclusive"...and yes, it's true, you cannot buy beer or wine at grocery stores.
Ironically enough, the government spends millions advertising booze and yes, we even have an air miles program!
Mixed messages abound with alcohol. I hope that "Doc's" site is successful and that you'll visit.
