Never let your head hang down. Never give up and sit down and grieve. Find another way. And don't pray when it rains if you don't pray when the sun shines.

Today I will be grateful for where I am now.
My life might not be perfect, and I might not have achieved the goals I thought I would have by now; I might not be living the kind of life I thought I would be or want to be, but I'm grateful for this day, right now, and the fact that I've made a commitment to myself to live a life in which I'm treated with respect and dignity.
I will use this day as a gift, one that I've given myself because I deserve it. I will use this day to be glad for all I've accomplished.
I'm deserving, worthy, and valuable.
I'm a lovable person, and today I thank the person who helped me understand this: me.

There is an end to grief if we have the courage to accept our personal goodness and our ongoing right to happiness.

Changing
The old saying is true: You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. It's the same with addiction and recovery. People can take away our drugs and put us in treatment, but no one can make us clean and sober.
When it hurts enough, when we're scared enough, when we're sick and tired enough, when we've lost enough, then we'll begin to change. But we have to want to change. It's the key.

The mind is a baby giant who, more provident in the cradle than he knows, has hurled his paths in life all round ahead of him, like playthings....

My courage must come each day, as does my desire to avoid a single drink, a single tranquilizer, and a single addictive act. It must be a continuing courage, without deviations and procrastination, without rashness, and without fear of obstacles. This would seem like a large order indeed, were it not for the fact that it is confined to this one day, and that within this day much power is given to me. Do I extend the Serenity Prayer to my entire life?
