Hello peeps! I am Roger "Doc" aka soberskater. Sober Skaters is my brain-child... I am a member of the SMART Recovery Program, and a skater since the late 60's. I am a 44 year old skating Grandpa. Married 20+ years, with two kids (that I know of...) And one Grandson. I currently live behind the "Zion Curtain" of Northen Utah, but was raised at Malibu Lake in Southern California. I work as an "At Risk Youth Counselor" at a large residential vocational/educational facility. I hope you enjoy it here at Sober Skaters, sharing your skating and finding help, support and fellowhip in your sobriety and recovery jorney.
Roger "Doc".

Hi gang, I'm Josh, an alcholic and addict. Was sober from 03-04, fell off the world for a year or so, found my feet (and the ground) and am starting over. Currently 6 mos sober and had my first "sober" session last week at my local indoor park. I forgot how much more fun it is when you have all your senses with you.
Thanks for posting about this site. I never really thought if there were too many other people into this life style. I'm definately gonna be a regular here.

I'm John, and I am an alcoholic and an addict. I'm 43 years old. I have been clean and sober since Nov. 7 1995. I grew up in the Sacramento, Ca. area. Started skating in 1975. By 1979 drugs had become more important to me. And thats pretty much how things went. The drugs and alcohol became the most important part of my life. Everything was centered around getting high.
Thru the years I had tried quitting on my own, without success. I could never understand having "a" beer. I drank to get drunk, did drugs to get high, unable to stop. For me, it took a combination of booze, meth and morphine to bring me to a point where I had to get help. Thanks to a supportive family, I entered a local hospital's treatment facility in 1995.
Started skating again a few years ago...
Thanks Doc, for starting this site!
John

I now live in Northern Utah, or as I call it, behind the "Zion Curtain". I grew up in Malibu Lake Ca. and also lived in Redondo Beach and Venice when I was a teenager... I miss L.A. call me crazy, but I do... I'll give you a shout next time I come home for a visit, so we can hook up for a sesh!

UncleMike here;
Santa Monica, but I'm a wind skater, so its the boardwakl and all parkinglots I can find, as well as El Marage in the high dessert.

Been about a week since first checking out this site, Jason Richardson here, used to skate competively, sobriety date july 18th 2001, currently in nursing school, skate whenever I have a chance. Still attend 12 step meetings at least once or twice a week, only thing that has worked for me, if it is not broke don't fix it. Wish everyone luck with whatever path they are taking for recovery.

Hey, my name is Jim and I've been clean since Dec 3-03. I celebrated my two year clean date in the emergency room. Broke my left wrist skating, go figure. I'm just getting back at it now and didnt realize how much I missed it until I dropped in for the first time in two months. Anyone out there in the Pheonix area? I would love to have some clean bro's to skate with.

Welcome gottheredout;
congrats on the 2 yrs. You should find some clean shredders here, watch us grow and sooner or later you should hear from someone in your area.
