Share your story about your favorite pool.
When I was a teen, in the late 70's my favorite pool to shred was at the 20th Century Fox Ranch in Malibu Canyon (Now Malibu Creek State Park). The pool was at "Grandma Mimi's" house on the ranch. "Uncle Jack" was the caretaker of the ranch, so I had free acess... It was a sweet pool, with about 12 foot in deep end and 4 feet of shallow. The pools in Southern California were all dry and empty due to the severe drought the region was enduring. Other than the intense brushfires that occured during this time in So.Cali, the drought was an awesome thing for us skaters!

My favorite pool... was my father's pool. During the summer of '76, Dad wanted to give the pool an acid bath. The idea was to drain the pool, and to scrub down the gunnite with muriatic acid and brooms. Nasty work. The acid would nominally burn everything... your nose, your lungs. Did a job on my sneakers.
When I was finished, I got my board out and hit the walls. Here are some pictures.

This is a 10 foot deep pool. The wall that I am headed for in these pictures was very vert, but with enough tranny to be able to make it. These pictures are from early on in my learning curve. I was learning to carve the walls. Eventually I learned to carve above the light and even get some tile... but the trajectory was a little different. Never did get a grind off the coping.
Dad let me ride for about a month and then filled the pool. Every summer after that I begged to give the pool an acid batch. I rode that pool for about a month each spring ... '76, '77, '78.
Dad has passed on, and the place has been sold. In November I was over there taking pictures and noted that they had drained it. It has some sludge in the bottom, but I am sorely tempted to go over there and ask if i can clean it out and ride it again...
Perhaps I should just barge it...
My favorite pool for sure...

Favorite had to be a permission pool in the summer of '77. Sacramento area. The drought years, and alot of empties, but this one was at a secluded home owned by an old widow. Perfect kidney. The pool was found by a younger kid who had approached the lady about letting him ride it. At first she said no, but Ted was persistent and the old lady finally gave in - if he would get a letter of permission from his parents to release her of any liability. We all got our letters ready, had one of the guy's sister write them for us. Well you know the story, good things never last. About 5 of us had the pool exclusively for about a month, word spread and the old lady couldn't deal with all the people invading her backyard.
